Save the Children

#BacktoSchool

European Commissioners wield significant influence in driving and implementing positive change. In collaboration with Save the Children, our aim was to underscore this responsibility to the newly elected Commissioners. To mark their inaugural day, each Commissioner found a personalized children's backpack on their desk, serving as a poignant reminder of their capacity to effect meaningful change for children worldwide. Within these backpacks lay three fundamental pillars: survival, education, and protection.

  1. Apple for Health: Malnutrition claims nearly 3.1 million children annually, hindering over 170 million from reaching their potential. Lack of access to healthcare exacerbates vulnerabilities, especially in conflict zones or impoverished regions.

  2. Box of Plasters for Protection: 75% of children worldwide endure various forms of violence, leading to long-term physical and mental health issues. Those in conflict or emergency situations are particularly susceptible to exploitation and abuse.

  3. Pencil for Education: Millions of children face educational deprivation due to poverty, emergencies, or discrimination based on gender, disability, or ethnicity. Nearly 400 million primary school-aged children struggle with illiteracy.

Accompanying these backpacks were personalised messages to 15 key Commissioners, urging them to prioritise child rights. Save the Children highlighted one specific request relevant to each Commissioner's portfolio, emphasising the importance of their roles in safeguarding children's well-being and futures.
